Kitchen Wall Decorating
Kitchen walls are usually forgotten but I hope to inspire and open your creativity up to some kitchen wall decorating ideas. Our kitchen is where my family’s heart is. Like most people I know, it is the gathering place for laughter, love, new beginnings and old memories.
My husband has a passion for food and cooking. In our house he is the primary meal maker. I know, I am blessed indeed, however the love for his family is displayed in his food and that’s why the kitchen is our favorite place in our house and we spend a lot of time there.
We are usually off to work and school every morning and find ourselves going without eating, grabbing a granola bar or picking up something along the way. Breakfast around the table in the morning like in the movies is just not the norm for us. However, Saturday morning breakfast is a big thing for our family as we make plans for our day and the upcoming week.
Currently my kitchen is in desperate need of some updating and we will be starting that process soon. When we begin to renovate, I will be sure to show you our process step by step. In the meantime, I thought it would be really cool to start with some kitchen wall decor ideas to get us motivated.
French Country Kitchen Wall Decor
First, lets begin by defining French Country. This style of design reminds us of the rural French countryside with color palettes of neutrals and greige. Greige is a combination of gray and beige. You may also see colors from all over the color wheel like greens, blues and soft yellows lending themselves to this decor style to produce a warm and inviting feeling into your space. Elegant prints and toile fabrics also play a role in accomplishing this look.
Visiting garage sales and flea markets are both excellent ways to collect the furnishings that are perfect for this particular design style. Choose signs that display words like “Grocery” or Kitchen” to spruce up the walls. Paint old mason jars with a matte chalk color, apply labels and place on floating shelves. Create a chalk board wall and frame it out with rustic wood accents to present today’s menu.
Copper Kitchen Wall Decor
How beautiful would it be to grace your walls with copper! Create a focal point with copper sheets in a horizontal pattern to form a unique and rustic accent wall. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, then apply a marbleized copper wallpaper to get your copper fix in. The wallpaper designs have really improved over the years and there are multiple patterns to choose from that are not only affordable but also have the modern decorator in mind.
Hang a collection of copper framed mirrors to your kitchen walls to add a little flair. This can be a diy project to improve your uninspired mirrors by putting those loose pennies to good use and framing them. You may even like the look of copper pudding and cake molds as a collection on your kitchen walls.
Tuscan Kitchen Wall Decor
The Tuscan design style provides us with aged finishes, terracotta tiles, plaster walls and iron scroll work. Creams, browns, beige and rusted reds with accents of yellows and golds make up the color scheme. Consider adding sconces with some iron scroll work mimicking vines on your walls or some vegetable and fruit decor to inject some Italian flavor. There are even some nice Tuscan wall panels you can place on your walls to add the Tuscan feel.
Modern Kitchen Wall Decor
Try a cabinet free approach by using open shelving to display your beautiful and colorful dishes or cookware and add visual space. Add a touch of personality with gallery wall collections. You can use framed recipe cards, plates, baskets and more to create a collection. There are vinyl wall decals that have an assortment of sayings for applying a fresh look to your kitchen design.
Implement a well-ordered utensil display. This can be accomplished by using metal or wood utensils. Using a peg board is another good way to display a collection by hanging different coffee mugs. Bring the outside in by creating a living wall to add some greenery. You can use old curtain rods to mount your precious pottery with the herbs and spices from your garden. Hanging fruit baskets double as a space saver as well as a decorative piece for your walls.
I just named a few of the many kitchen wall art ideas. Try some of these and let me know how it turns out in the comments. If you have any other ideas that were not mentioned here, feel free to comment below. I would love to hear about it. As always, be inspired, be bold and don’t be afraid. Happy Decorating!
